 History

Tazewell County adopted the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC) on September 1, 1973.  The Ordinance defines provisions which shall control all matters concerning the construction, alteration, addition, repair, removal, demolition, use, location, condemnation, occupancy and maintenance of all buildings, and all other functions which pertain to the installation of all systems vital to all building and structures and their service equipment as defined by the Uniform Statewide Building Code, and shall apply to existing and proposed building or structures in the County.

The provisions of the USBC are based on nationally recognized model building and fire codes published by the International Code Council, Inc.  As of July 14, 2015, Tazewell County enforces the 2012 Edition of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and its provisions, as adopted, from the International Code Council, Inc., for the purpose of establishing minimum regulations to govern the construction and maintenance of buildings and structures.
