Building Inspector (Full-time)

Tazewell County, Virginia is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Building Inspector.

General statement of duties include: Under the general direction of the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector performs inspections, handles permit processing, preforms plan checks, and additional building inspection functions to ensure compliance with adopted Codes of Virginia and local ordinances, standards, policies , and laws. This position assists the Chief Building Official with the most complex inspections as assigned. The Building Inspector manages a daily work schedule that considers timelines, deadlines and ensures prompt attention to citizens in need of an inspections in order to move forward with projects.

Essential position functions include but are not limited to conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with building codes, and to check for hazardous conditions. They also look for construction or alterations that are being done without proper permits. The Building Inspector explains building requirements and inspections to the public, architects, engineers, contractors, and owners. They also provide advice on building permits. Building Inspectors investigate and resolve complaints related to buildings. Building Inspectors keep records and files of inspections and actions taken. They also establish and maintain working relationships with the public.

Knowledge, skills and abilities should include but are not limited to: Reading plans and construction drawings, interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, and County policies, procedures, and codes. Maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships and networks with those contacted in the course of work. Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines. Manage and advance multiple priorities, including plan review and inspection of large and complex projects concurrently, to meet established timelines.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from and accredited college or university in civil or structural engineering, architecture, architectural engineering, construction management or closely related field; OR five (5) year of increasingly responsible experience in construction building inspection, building design, plan checking, civil engineering, surveying, or closely related field, at least two of which must be in a supervisory role. Registration as a professional engineer or architect in the State of Virginia is desirable.

Salary and Benefits: Starting salary is $43,201.00, Benefits and retirement available.

 

Paramedic

Within this position an employee works independently in providing a high level of emergency care by responding to emergency calls for a variety of illnesses and injuries. Performs basic and advanced life support, stabilization procedures and emergency medical care at the paramedic level of training and certification, in accordance with all rules and regulations set forth by the Virginia Office of EMS. Operating and maintaining agency apparatuses and equipment with due regard, pursuant to the Code of Virginia and regulatory requirements; assisting in the routine maintenance and inspection of agency apparatus, facilities, and equipment. Other job duties: Performs similar, less skilled tasks, assist supervisory and billing staff in timely reports, collecting data and submitting for billing; perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Starting Pay $18.00/hr. Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess a valid Virginia Paramedic certification, CPR, ACLS and PALS. EMT Basic

Job Summary: An employee in this class is responsible for responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons, and transporting persons to medical facilities. Work includes assuring that quality emergency patient care standards are in place, proper equipment and treatment are available, and sound judgment and treatment decisions are made. Operating and maintaining agency apparatuses and equipment with due regard, pursuant to the Code of Virginia and regulatory requirements; assisting in the routine maintenance and inspection of agency apparatus, facilities, and equipment. Starting pay $15.44/hr. Other job duties: Performs similar, less skilled tasks, assist supervisory and billing staff in timely making reports, collecting data and submitting for billing; perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess a valid VA Emergency Medical Technician certificate and CPR certification and maintain state requirements.
