With an established track record of success with the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), Tazewell County plans to submit a planning grant proposal to the upcoming Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant cycle. RAISE Grants are an opportunity for DOT to fund local infrastructure projects that align with federal priorities. In the upcoming RAISE cycle, $1.5 billion is available for infrastructure projects in communities nationwide.
Based upon Congress’ and DOT’s priorities, in addition to previously funded projects, competitive RAISE projects must accomplish the following goals:
- Safety
- Quality of Life
- Mobility and Community Connectivity
- Environmental Sustainability
- Economic Competitiveness and Access to Jobs and Opportunities
- Innovation
- State of Good Repair
- Partnership and Collaboration

- Intersection of Crab Orchard Road and 19/460
- Intersection of Indian Paint Road and Walmart
Project Timeline and Next Steps:
- Winter 2024: Application and Development
- 2025 January: Application Submission
- 2025 June: Notification of RAISE awards
- 2025-2026: Negotiations with DOT/FHWA on final project scope and budget
