The Circuit Court Clerk's Office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. We are located at 135 Court Street, Suite 202, Tazewell, VA 24651-1071.

Services
The circuit court handles all civil cases with claims of more than $25,000. It shares authority with the general district court to hear matters involving between $4,500 and $25,000. The circuit court has the authority to hear serious criminal cases called felonies.
The circuit court also handles family matters, including divorce. In addition, the circuit court hears cases appealed from the general district court and from the juvenile and domestic relations district court.

Jury Orientation Video
All potential jurors are required to view a short orientation video. Potential jurors are also required to notify the Clerk’s Office by telephone, email, or fax to confirm that the orientation video has been viewed. The orientation video can be located on the Tazewell Circuit Court Facebook Page OR on the Tazewell County Circuit Court Clerk YouTube Page.
Terms of Court and General Information
Court Terms begin on the second Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November.

- Grand Juries convene on the first day of each term.
- Court begins at 9:00 a.m., unless otherwise specified by the presiding judge.
- Misdemeanor Appeal Day is held the day following Term Day.
Case Handling Guidelines

- Commissioners in Chancery are appointed only for land title cases.
- Final Orders are certified and distributed as follows:
- Attorneys of Record:
- Local attorneys receive orders in the designated office mailbox slots.
- Non-local attorneys receive orders by mail.
- Pro Se Individuals:
- Orders are mailed directly to the party’s address on record.
- Attorneys of Record:
Copy Distribution:

- Criminal Cases: One copy of each order is provided to the Commonwealth and to the defense attorney.
- Civil Cases: Two certified copies are provided to each attorney (one for the client and one for the attorney’s file), or one copy is mailed to a pro se party.
