Emergency Management protects communities by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other man-made disasters.
The Emergency Management Coordinator acts as a liaison between Tazewell County and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. The decision to declare a county-wide disaster and attempt to bring in state and federal emergency assistance will be coordinated within certain guidelines. It is the ESC responsibility to ensure the safety of the citizens during time of large scale disasters. Coordinates Hazardous Materials Response with local Fire Departments and Virginia State Agencies.
Hazardous Materials Coordinator coordinates hazardous material incidents between the citizen, local and state agencies. It is the Coordinator's responsibility to ensure all incidents dealing with hazardous material is mitigated to ensure the least damage to life, property, and the enviroment.
